Sacral Neuromodulation

Sacral neuromodulation is a therapeutic option for patients dealing with overactive bladder, urinary retention, and chronic fecal incontinence. Commonly thought of as a "pacemaker for the bladder," the Interstim® system uses an implanted neurostimulator to send electrical pulses to an area near the sacral nerve. This normalizes neural activity for the bladder and bowel.

Before the Interstim® is fully implanted, the patient undergoes a test phase with the device. The device is implanted only in patients who experience an improvement in symptoms during the testing phase. Once implanted, the doctor and an Interstim® representative will work closely with the patient to fine tune any electric programming.

If you suffer from overactive bladder, urinary retention, or chronic fecal incontinence and have not had relief from other therapies, discuss this option with your doctor.
