Mark Macpherson, DO

A native of the Midwest, Dr. Mark Ian Macpherson was born in Ohio and completed most of his schooling, including college and medical school, in Iowa. Becoming a doctor was Dr. Macpherson’s lifelong dream, something he remembers aspiring to even as a child. The choice to specialize in family medicine came out of a desire to provide a wide breadth of diverse services to his patients. Dr. Macpherson was also drawn to the ability to follow his patients over time, through the different stages of life. Because he values the ability to cultivate a new generation of medical professionals, Dr. Macpherson has mentored many medical school, nursing and physician assistant students. He also has teaching experience at the high school, college and medical school levels.

A resident of Apex, N.C., for nearly 20 years, Dr. Macpherson is proud to be a part of the team at WakeMed Physician Practices – Primary Care - Apex. Not only is it fulfilling to serve patients in his own community, but Dr. Macpherson also feels a strong connection to the WakeMed mission – “improving the health and well-being of our community by providing outstanding and compassionate care to all.”

Dr. Macpherson has experience in all aspects of family medicine, focusing on preventative health practices and health maintenance. He is committed to teaching his patients how to make lifestyle changes, especially through fitness and nutrition, so that they can lead fuller, longer, healthier lives. When working with his patients, Dr. Macpherson takes a holistic approach, believing that the mind, body and spirit all influence and affect one another.

Married with two grown sons, Dr. Macpherson has many personal interests outside of medicine. He and his wife, Kim, enjoy gardening and landscaping at their home. He also enjoys woodworking and staying active through outdoor activities including fishing, biking, golf, hiking, kayaking and camping.
