Dr. Ivy Pointer is a board-certified pediatrician with WakeMed Physician Practices – Pediatrics, with training in pediatric critical care medicine.
She received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine and her master's degree in public health from the UNC School of Public Health. She completed her residency in pediatrics at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where she is currently a fellow in pediatric critical care medicine. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in science from UNC-Chapel Hill, with a major in biology and minor in business administration.
Dr. Pointer is certified in pediatrics and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, North Carolina Pediatric Society and Society of Critical Care Medicine. In 2011, she received the Research Merit Award from the UNC Department of Pediatrics, and in 2007, she received the Kaiser Permanente Excellence in Teaching Award from UNC. Dr. Pointer serves as the volunteer medical director for youth triathlons for the Swim for Smiles Foundation in Chapel Hill and a volunteer youth group leader at Blacknall Presbyterian Church in Durham, N.C.
