Society of 1961

Donors who contribute $1,500 or more annually are recognized through membership in the Society of 1961, named in honor of WakeMed’s founding year. This is a passionate group of investors who believe the health and well-being of our community is of the highest priority. We are thankful for their trust, vision, and generosity.

Honoring Doctors, Nurses and Caregivers with a gift of gratitude

Our patients and families often thank us with a smile, a hug, or even a warm handshake. Sometimes, patients and their families choose to express their gratitude through charitable gifts that help us care for more patients.

Our Gifts of Gratitude Program is an opportunity to say thank you to a member of our care team, an area of care, or a program that made a difference in your life.

Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated and will allow us to help those who have helped you in your time of need, as well as the many patients who will come after you. With your gift, you can make a true difference in the lives of our medical professionals, patients, their families, and our entire community.

Planned Giving

The Legacy Society at WakeMed honors friends who have included the WakeMed Foundation in their estate plans or have made some other type of planned gift to WakeMed.

Planned giving can be a very effective tax planning strategy, and may provide certain financial advantages to you and your family and heirs. It may also enable you to make a much larger gift than you ever dreamed possible.

A planned gift to support WakeMed may align with your philanthropic and financial goals in many specific ways, including if you seek to:

  • Avoid capital gains liability
  • Maximize your income tax deductions
  • Have your heirs receive more of your estate
  • Reduce high income tax liability now
  • Reduce gift and estate taxes, providing benefits to your heirs and beneficiaries
  • Contribute to WakeMed's future growth and sustainability

By making a planned gift to the WakeMed Foundation, you are helping to ensure WakeMed's mission of improving the health and well-being of our community for generations to come. We can help you find a charitable plan that fits your goals.

Please contact Brendan Piper-Smyer, Director of Major Gifts & Planned Giving at: 919-350-8841 or bpiper-smyer@wakemed.org .

Alternatively, you may also contact your financial planner to discuss options that meet your estate planning and philanthropic needs.
