About Me

Dr. Motameni is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care with clinical interests in general and trauma surgery. He joins WakeMed after finishing his surgical critical care fellowship at University of Louisville and working at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY. Dr. Motameni earned his medical degree from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC and completed his residency and internship programs at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Dr. Motameni is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and The Arnold P. Gold Foundation honor medical societies. His research work has been published in journals such as Annals of Surgery, Journal of American College of Surgeons and Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. He has contributed to multiple surgical text books.

In his free time, Dr. Motameni enjoys traveling and reading.

Love Dr. Amirreza Motameni. Great bedside manner. Fun, caring, makes you feel heard and that you matter. Sees you as a human not just a patient. Excellent skills. Highly recommended. He performed surgery on both me and my husband.

Everything was outstanding- from the person at reception (efficient, friendly, professional), the nurse who weighed me (engaging, friendly, professional, informative, caring), Dr Motameni (phenomenal in his personal skills, engaging with eye contact, super respectful, super informative and easy to understand, super professional, just plain super), to the student you've picked to accompany Dr Motameni for whom allowances could have been made, but for whom none were needed (he also knew how to respectfully make eye contact and behave. The visit was a pleasure. Will done WakeMed Surgery!

Dr. Motameni was kind and compassionate about my condition, since taking [Rx] medication prior to arrival had not resolved the issue and taking more would have impeded my ability to make cognitive choices about my healthcare he acted quickly. The fact that he worked me into his schedule and then performed the emergency procedure I was in need of without delay instilled confidence. He even gave me the choice to have him or my primary surgeon do the surgery which I valued deeply. At the time he was not my primary surgeon surrounding this issue; I did attempt to get up with the surgeon who I had been working with but due to circumstances it did not work out. I appreciated and valued his thoughtfulness in allowing me to be in control of my healthcare and make choices during the whole process. This is an admirable trait and one that I believe should be recognized and applauded! Thank you Dr. Motameni for taking such great care of me, it was really appreciated.
