Where to Apply

Thank you for your interest in WakeMed Internal Medicine Residency program. Applications for our program must be submitted electronically through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Applicants are selected for interviews based on evidence of their commitment to a patient-focused career, history of strong academic achievement, maturity, professionalism and strong clinical skills.

How to Apply

Visit the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) website to begin the residency application process. WakeMed Internal Medicine Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) process. Please visit NRMP (code 2275140C0) to access the application, dates and deadlines.

For the 2023 ERAS® cycle, our program will be participating in the supplemental ERAS application offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants will be required to complete the MyERAS application, and participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional.

Required Materials

  • Completed ERAS application
  • Personal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation from physicians who have supervised you in a clinical setting (At least one of the physicians should be an internal medicine faculty member.) If you do not have a Dean's Letter/MSPE, please include a third letter of recommendation from a supervising physician.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • USMLE / COMLEX scores
  • Medical school transcript

Step 3: Check email received through ERAS for your invitation to interview.

What to Expect

We evaluate applications in a holistic manner, without set cut offs for receipt of USMLE/COMLEX scores or grades. We personally review applications and MSPEs before sending invitations to interview. Interviews are conducted two days per week from November through January. For 2022-2023 interview season, all interviews will be held virtually.

All applicants will receive communication regarding their application status. 

Fairness and transparency are fundamental in our commitment to inform all applicants of their status.
