About Me

For Dr. Alden Maier, taking initiative and achieving goals are themes that run deep in all aspects of her life. A Georgia native who came to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an undergraduate and for medical school, Dr. Maier stayed in the area to practice following the completion of her cardiothoracic surgery and thoracic surgery fellowships. She was instrumental in the start-up of a new thoracic surgery program upon completion of her minimally invasive surgical fellowship and first faculty job at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and now brings that expertise and know-how to WakeMed Heart & Vascular Physicians. WakeMed Heart & Vascular Physicians provides great partners, great people and new energy and vision for Dr. Maier as she pursues treating her patients with the best possible outcomes.

Dr. Maier specializes in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, which mainly involves surgical procedures of the lungs and esophagus, as well as other types of surgical procedures within the chest. She believes providing personal, detailed care for each patient is the key to delivering exceptional care. She finds gratitude in helping patients through their health crisis and putting them on the road to better health. Dr. Maier is also an advocate for providing patients with clear communication and easier-to-understand clinical education in order to achieve positive outcomes.

Dr. Maier lives in Raleigh, NC and is the mother to three active children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, traveling to the beach and is learning to play the drums with her daughter.
