It's event season at WakeMed, and have something to offer the whole family - ladies, men and kids too!
Intern units are offered three times each year. Extended units are offered in the Fall (August to December) and Spring (January to May). A full-time summer unit begins in late May and goes through mid-August. Students can choose to be involved in Hospital Based or Urban Ministry CPE. All units require a minimum of 400 hours of supervised ministry.
Hospital Based CPE
The Hospital based unit offers students the opportunity to provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff within the setting of a major Medical Center. Students serve as the Chaplain for a specific clinical area in addition to on-call rotations and Saturday and Sunday assistance with spiritual care consults on a rotating basis. Students have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary health care rounds with medical staff on their assigned clinical unit.
Urban Ministry CPE
Urban Ministry CPE provides the student with an opportunity to offer spiritual care to those who are often marginalized in our society. Increasing ministerial identity and growing self-awareness contribute to a rich journey to identify with "the least of these." This program is open to laity, divinity school students, and clergy with a strong interest in learning from and serving the poor.
Selected placements include the Helen Wright Women’s Shelter, South Salisbury St. Men’s Shelter, St. Savior’s Center and Urban Ministries of Wake County. Urban Ministry CPE students also have exposure to hospital ministry by completing on-call rotations each month and Saturday and Sunday assistance with spiritual care consults on a rotating basis. Meetings and written requirements are the same as Hospital Based CPE.
For both the hospital-based and urban ministry internships, meetings may include:
