  • Fridays: 7:30 am to noon

WakeMed Outpatient Rehab Programs

We provide physical rehabilitation services to individuals who have pain or loss of physical function due to injury, illness or disease process. Treatment planning occurs through evaluating your goals, needs and potential for improvement within our program capabilities. Our programs are medically directed by a physiatrist and delivered by highly qualified professional staff who specialize in outpatient rehabilitation.


During your initial visit, you will receive a comprehensive assessment and evaluation by each therapist prescribed for your care. You, your caregivers, if appropriate, and your therapist(s) identify treatment goals, discharge plans, treatment intensity, frequency and duration beginning with the assessment phase. Progress and goals are discussed with you during each visit. We will plan your discharge from the program when continued treatment is no longer medically necessary, treatment is no longer justified, and/or you are adequately prepared.

Outpatient Appointments


Family & Caregivers

Family and caregiver involvement in your care is encouraged. Your therapist can schedule extra time at your request to meet with your family or caregiver. Please request time in advance. Your therapist will also ask your permission before talking with your family about your care and progress.

For Parents

We do require a parent or guardian to stay on site during therapy. During the first visit, the therapist will meet with you and your child. During each subsequent therapy session, the therapist will review your child’s progress, and goals and provide activities to do at home. Please ask to attend treatment sessions if you have any concerns or questions.

Our Goal

We are committed to providing excellent customer service and professional ethics. With your help, we can continue to improve the care we provide. If you feel our care has not been excellent, have concerns or have suggestions or comments on ways we can enhance or care and services, please talk with your therapist(s) or any member of our team. Our management team’s phone numbers are located on the back of this sheet. Other opportunities to share your feedback with us include:

  • Completion of a comment card (located in our lobby).
  • Participation in a random patient satisfaction telephone survey after discharge.
  • Call or meet with the facility manager, director or executive director to discuss any questions or concerns.

Scheduling Appointments

Schedule an appointment by calling 919-350-7000.  At the end of your first appointment and at various times throughout your rehabilitation program, you and your therapist will identify the number of appointments you need/will work for you per week and the amount of time for each appointment. Before you leave, stop at the registration desk to schedule your next appointments.

We make every effort to schedule you with the same therapist for each of your appointments. There are occasions when you may see another therapist because your regular therapist may be out of the office or has a scheduling conflict.

After your first visit, appointments generally take 30 to 45 minutes. Each appointment may include exercise or activities with one of the therapist assistants/aides.

Payment & Insurance

We will work directly with you to plan your treatment. Please discuss any insurance or payment concerns with your therapist or our team. Please notify us right away if there are any changes to your insurance. In general, we schedule appointments based on our evaluation findings and the doctor’s prescription.

We work with you and your family to formulate the best treatment plan despite barriers that may affect your ability to participate in the rehab program, such as insurance, transportation or other conflicts. Your therapist may recommend additional appointments, and we will contact your doctor and/or insurance company for approval. Our front desk staff will discuss any payment concerns with you. Please know that we check your insurance benefits as a courtesy, however, you are ultimately responsible for payment. We advise that you contact your insurance carrier to verify your benefits, covered services and limitations of services. You are responsible for monitoring your utilization of benefits with your insurance company. When calling your insurance company, please be aware that WakeMed Rehab is a member of WakeMed Health and Hospitals. Therefore, we bill under facility based services rather than office visits.

Canceling Appointments

Keeping your scheduled appointments is important to maximize the benefits of your rehabilitation program. Please discuss any issues impacting your attendance with your therapist.

We realize that situations arise that may prevent you from keeping your appointment. Please call and cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment. We have a voicemail system to take your call after hours and on weekends. Please cancel if you are feeling sick or have a contagious infection.

  • If you fail to call and cancel, future appointment times may be opened for other clients, a no show fee may be charged, or you may be discharged. Continuation of therapy will be dependent upon review of your circumstances with your therapist(s).
  • If you fail to attend on two or more occasions, you may need a new prescription from your physician to restart your therapy program. You may also need to schedule future visits on an appointment-toappointment basis.


If you have a fever or illness that could be contagious, please cancel your appointment for that day. We want to make sure that all our patients are in a healthy environment at WakeMed.

Inclement Weather
  • Please call 919-350-4199 for adjustments to operating hours due to inclement weather.
  • WRAL-TV and radio will air any changes to our facility hours due to inclement weather.
