WakeMed Health & Hospitals is home to a nationally certified primary stroke center. As a Joint Commission certified stroke center, WakeMed has a proven commitment to quality stroke care and follows national best practices that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients. In addition, WakeMed stroke specialists continue to receive awards from the American Heart and Stroke Association for excellence in stroke care.

The WakeMed Stroke Team offers preventive care as well as emergent stroke treatments, including IV tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), intra-arterial t-PA and stent retrievers.
