Chris Billiar, PT, MSPT
Outpatient Rehab Supervisor Chris Billiar is a graduate of Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and has been a physical therapist for more than 20 years. Chris previously worked at UNC Hospitals where he was the senior physical therapist for Inpatient Orthopedic Rehab. For more than 10 years, Chris has worked with WakeMed, specializing in treating adults and children with orthopaedic conditions. Chris is a clinic supervisor and has helped to develop several programs including SportFit Golf and WakeMed Running Clinics. Chris is proud to be an Eagle Scout and has been a den leader for his son’s Cub Scout pack. When not working he enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter and attending Hurricanes and Mudcats games.

Melissa Bieber, PT, MPTMelissa Bieber is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and has been practicing as an orthopaedic physical therapist for more than a decade. She incorporates hands-on treatment with all her patients to relieve pain and restore proper joint motion and function. She values quality, one-on-one patient care and teaches functional strengthening and overall health and wellness to help her patients reach their full potential. Melissa enjoys treating people of all ages and abilities, especially those with knee and shoulder problems. She works with a variety of athletes, including patients from The Cary Ballet Conservatory, NCFC and TFC soccer leagues. She also served as the physical therapist for the Raleigh School of Gymnastics. She enjoys being outdoors, gardening and hiking in her spare time.

Chad Gravatt, PT, MSPTChad Gravatt has been with WakeMed since 2010 after a 6-year career in Michigan. He attended Grand Valley State University graduating with a master’s degree in physical therapy in 2004. He then worked in an outpatient manual therapy clinic where he did extensive training in manual techniques of the spine, extremities, and the jaw. Chad continues to focus on a manual-based approach to orthopaedics to help his patients lead independent active lifestyles. In 2006, Chad studied under Bob Donatelli to start a golf-specific performance enhancement program for PGA tour athletes as well as amateur golfers. In addition, he spent 2 years on the medical staff for the Battle Creek Revolution, an AAHL hockey team. With experience in a wide range of orthopaedics ranging from the geriatric patient to the pro athlete, Chad understands the importance of treating the individual for his or her specific goals and lifestyle.

Deidre Queen, PT, MPT, ATCDeidre graduated with a master’s degree in physical therapy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her philosophy of treatment is to identify and treat the “root cause” of a patient’s problem by performing biomechanical assessments and utilizing manual therapy techniques and functional therapeutic exercises to restore optimal movement patterns. Deidre strives to provide compassionate and high quality care to all of her patients. She also believes that patient education and working as a “team” are imperative to meet the patient’s specific goals and to return the patient to the highest level of function possible. Deidre has several years of experience treating a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions. Her clinical interests include foot/ankle and shoulder problems, SI joint dysfunction, neck pain, balance and falls prevention, and post-surgical rehab.

Lisa Lysik, OTR/LLisa graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in science from Quinnipiac University. She has three decades of experience as an occupational therapist, in a variety of settings but has focused more recently on orthopaedics. Lisa is the chairperson for the WakeMed Hand Committee. Her high energy motivates her patients and she values education as a way to accelerate their progress in treatment. Lisa’s strong passion for her profession, coupled with her orthopaedic knowledge, leads to successful outcomes. Lisa enjoys being outside and participating in sports, spending time with her family, reading, and cooking.

Karen Hutcherson, PT, DPT Karen earned her doctoral degree in physical therapy at East Carolina University and treats patients of all ages. She uses manual therapy and functional therapeutic exercise to restore normal joint function and lifestyle. In addition, Karen believes education is a critical part of the healing process because it helps patients understand the cause of their pain and how they can manage their symptoms. She serves as an expert resource at many events, including the North Carolina Cheerleading Coaches Conference on Injury Prevention, and as a clinical instructor for Duke University and University of North Carolina physical therapy students.

Amy Howes, PT, MSPTAmy earned her master’s degree in physical therapy from East Carolina University and has worked in a variety of therapy settings. She now helps patients regain joint functionality and quality of life after sports injury or surgery on an outpatient basis. Though she works with patients of all ages (even as young as 7 years old), Amy has a special interest in helping student athletes successfully return to play. While working on her undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University, she served as a student athletic trainer for several of the school’s sports teams. Now, she treats many elementary, junior high and high school athletes. Her focus on helping students prevent future injuries has earned her the respect of many parents and coaches.
