Before You Begin Work

New Employees 4

There are several steps all new employees need to take after accepting an offer of employment and before the first day of work:

Review Offer Letter and New Employee Paperwork
As part of the hiring process, you will receive an official offer letter and new employee paperwork via email from Human Resources. Please review this information thoroughly as it includes many important details about your new job and salary information. All new employees are required to complete a criminal background check and the Form I-9 for employment eligibility verification before beginning work at WakeMed. If you have questions about your offer letter or required documentation, please contact your recruiter.

Review Your Work Location
If you have not already done so, please familiarize yourself with your new work location. See a map of all WakeMed facilities and learn more about where you will be working. WakeMed Physician Practices employees can click to find the appropriate practice.

Gather Immunization Records
All WakeMed Health & Hospitals employees are required to provide proof of immunity to several communicable diseases. New employees are required to complete all health record updates during the first week of employment so we suggest you gather your immunization records in advance. Some suggested places to look for immunization records would be the local health department where you lived as a child, previous school records and previous employers, especially if you worked in a hospital setting.

Meet with Human Resources & Occupational Health
After you complete your new employee paperwork, you will need to come to WakeMed Raleigh Campus for two appointments (we make every effort to schedule these appointments on the same day):

  • Meet with Human Resources: A member of the Human Resources team will review your paperwork and ensure that everything is in order for you to begin work. If your paperwork is not completed properly, you may not be able to begin work on your scheduled first day.
  • Visit Occupational Health & Safety Services: Occupational Health will conduct a drug screening and review your completed medical records forms. Be sure to bring copies of your immunization records to this appointment. Please do not bring children to this appointment.

Please reference the map below to learn where these appointments take place.
