When you are faced with a traumatic injury or condition impacting the brain, spine, head or neck, you want access to the very latest in imaging to accurately pinpoint the source of your problem. WakeMed has invested in state-of-the-art imaging equipment and partners with Raleigh Radiology to ensure that patients get imaging studies done and results sent quickly to their referring physician so that they can effectively treat the injury or illness.

Some of the conditions that are diagnosed using neuroradiology techniques include:

  • Stroke and aneurysms
  • Diseases of the brain that impact cognitive skills
  • Brain and spinal tumors
  • Genetic conditions
  • Unexplained headaches
  • Head and neck vascular conditions
  • Spinal injury and disease
  • Loss of feeling or tingling in the limbs
  • Trauma/accidents
  • Visual loss and hearing problems

To determine the source of the problem, neuroradiologists who practice at WakeMed use a variety of studies, including MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computed tomography), MR angiography (MRA) and CT angiography (CTA), MR spectroscopy, myelography and lumbar puncture. Working jointly with the patient’s neurologist, neurosurgeon or orthopaedic surgeon, these specialists can help diagnose dysfunction, injury or conditions at an early stage. Armed with the results from the neuroradiologist, the patient’s physician can develop the best possible therapy to ensure an optimal outcome.

Neuroradiology studies are performed at WakeMed imaging locations including:
