Why Neurodiagnostic Testing Is Important
Neurological symptoms can be challenging to interpret and hard to replicate in a physician’s office. We use neurodiagnostic testing to study the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system. This helps determine why you may be experiencing neurological symptoms — giving our physicians the right tools to develop an effective treatment plan.
About Our Neurodiagnostic Lab
Our state-of-the-art neurodiagnostic lab is staffed by trained technologists, who are skilled in performing tests that record electrical activity from the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves.
We use results from these tests to provide insight into a patient’s condition and to assist physicians in developing an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
Testing We Offer
- Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Long-Term Video Monitoring (LTVM) : An EEG shows effects from trauma in the brain, certain brain infections, brain function or loss of function in a particular region, as well as oxygen impairment to the brain. LTVM is an extension of the EEG. In this test, electrical activity in the brain is recorded using EEG wires, and the patient is videotaped.
- Electromyography: This measures muscle response and assesses the health of muscles and nerve cells. It can help explain why someone might be experiencing tingling, numbness or muscle weakness.
- Evoked Potentials (EP): An evoked potentials test, or evoked response, measures how quickly a nerve responds to a stimulus. It can be helpful for diagnosing neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis.
- Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM): As a safeguard to reduce the risk of stroke or paralysis, we offer this type of monitoring during surgery.
- Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV): An electrical test that measures the speed of nerve impulse, an NCV can be helpful in determining why someone might be experiencing tingling, numbness or muscle weakness.
- Videoelectronystagmogram (VNG): A VNG studies the inner ear and brain to better understand dizziness and balance problems.

- At Outpatient Registration, turn right and follow the hall to the first intersection.

- Look to the left for the elevators, and at the end of the elevator hallway, you will locate the “Neurodiagnostics” door sign.
Cary
- At Outpatient Registration, veer to the left towards Same Day Surgery. Continue left and follow the hall to the first intersection.
- Turn right and walk towards the Cardiopulmonary department.
- Neurodiagnostics is located in the Cardiopulmonary testing area.
