Biography

Margaret Marsden is a certified nurse midwife and board certified lactation consultant. With more than 20 years’ experience in midwifery and nearly 30 years’ experience in nursing, Margaret joins WakeMed from Baby + Co., a birthing center in Cary that supports unmedicated births

Margaret provides the full scope of midwifery care, including well woman exams, prenatal care and delivery, and lactation consultation. She is also a resource and advocate for breastfeeding and decreased interventions in childbirth.

“A desire to use my hands, heart, and mind to provide compassionate care to women and their families through pregnancy and childbirth has spanned more than 20 years,” she said. “Midwifery is my calling, and providing continuous labor support during a woman's labor is the most enjoyable part of my work.”

Margaret is an experienced public speaker on topics including breast feeding, the practice of midwifery, labor management, the birth center model of care and birth control.

Outside of work she enjoys running, horseback riding, singing praise music and spending time with her two teen daughters. She also serves as the member-at-large for the NC Nurse Midwifery Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
