WakeMed contracts with a wide variety of managed care plans and insurance companies. Following find a list of plans offered in our market currently accepted at WakeMed's facilities & physician practices.
By law, all insurance products must cover emergencies. If you are having an emergency, please select your care location based on proximity rather than insurance coverage.
Additionally, if your insurance product is not sold in our market, then it will not be on the list below, but that does not mean we do not accept your plan. To determine if your plan is accepted by us, please call Customer Service at 919-350-8359 to verify acceptance.
We want to help you ensure you and your family has full access to WakeMed, the health care system that offers you the most comprehensive medical services available in Wake County.
We are pleased to maintain ongoing contracts with nearly every major insurance network, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna and others.
At this time, we expect most of our current existing contracts to continue without change for 2019. Please check back here regularly between now and your Open Enrollment period for the latest information.
Open Enrollment for the 2019 calendar year on Healthcare.og begins November 1, 2018 and continues through December 15, 2018.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC has discontinued their Blue Local produt for 2019, which means all current Blue Local members will be moved into another plan for the 2019 calendar year and may risk losing in-network benefits for WakeMed.

I am a current Blue Local member and have questions regarding my coverage.
To allow Blue Local members to maintain their relationships with WakeMed providers and retain in-network benefits at WakeMed, we are pleased to announce our participation in a new 2019 exchange plan - Ambetter of North Carolina. This offering is being finalized and we will be contacting WakeMed patients with details on how to continue your WakeMed coverage with Ambetter prior to open enrollment in November.
It is also important to note that in the case of an emergency, all patients should seek care at the closest hospital regardless of insurance coverage. Hospital emergency care is covered by all plans even if the hospital no longer has a contract with the plan.
