WakeMed is a Joint Commission Accredited Healthcare Provider
WakeMed is proud to be Joint Commission accredited healthcare provider.   The Joint Commission is a healthcare accrediting agency with strict rules and regulations participating organizations must follow to ensure they are providing the best healthcare in safe facilities following best practices. 

Joint Commission standards dictate security requirements, size of doorways, surgical process and procedures, physician documentation and much, much more.  Comprehensive surveys are conducted every three years. 

Raleigh Campus, Cary Hospital, WakeMed North, Apex Healthplex, Brier Creek Healthplex, Garner Healthplex and all WakeMed outpatient facilities are all Joint Commission accredited.


Joint Commission™ Gold Seal of Approval for Stroke Care
The WakeMed Stroke Program holds the Gold Seal of Approval for Stroke Care from The Joint Commission, "an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.  Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to meeting certain performance standards."

Best Emergency Room/Hospital
WakeMed was selected by readers of Wake Living Magazine as the Best Emergency Room/Hospital in the inaugural Wake Readers Choice Awards.

American Stroke Association - Excellence in Stroke Care 2014

Being honored for excellence in patient care is the best recognition a hospital can receive. In 2014, the WakeMed Stroke Program once again received recognition from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association through their coveted Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) awards.  These awards recognize hospitals nationwide for their success in using GWTG to enhance quality of care for heart disease and stroke patients.

WakeMed earned the Silver Plus Performance Achievement for Stroke on the Raleigh Campus and the Gold Plus Performance Achievement for Stroke at Cary Hospital.

Additionally, the Raleigh Campus earned the Target: Stroke Honor Roll recognition which is related to administration of tPA within the first three hours after the onset of stroke symptoms, shown to significantly reverse the effects of stroke and reduce permanent disability.

Wake County's Only Level 1 Trauma

WakeMed Raleigh Campus features one of six Level 1 Trauma programs statewide to deliver the highest level of care for traumatic injuries. In 2006, WakeMed was the first hospital system in 16 years to move from Level II Trauma to a Level I Trauma program. The Level I Trauma program is supported by WakeMed Air Mobile and a dedicated team of emergency physicians, orthopaedists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, respiratory therapists, nurses, radiologists, chaplains and social workers.

WakeMed Raleigh Campus and Cary Hospital are Chest Pain Centers certified by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care .

Being a designated Chest Pain Center, reinforces that the processes and procedures used by our team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals ensure rapid diagnosis and fast appropriate care, offering our patients the best care and chance to avoid or minimize the damage from a heart attack
