How Much Will My Treatment Cost?

We realize that the cost of health care is a concern for our patients.

To help you when making decisions, our team can provide you with an estimate of the charges associated with the treatment and services you are expected to receive.  Under the law, health care providers must give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. This is called a Good Faith Estimate.

What’s Included in My Estimate?

At WakeMed we are committed to billing and pricing transparency, and we are pleased to offer estimates within WakeMed MyChart and via phone. Here are a few things to know about the estimates:

  • It's important to note that we can't tell you in advance exactly how much you'll pay for your care because your care will be based on your specific needs, which aren't like anyone else's and may change during the course of treatment.
  • We will do our best to give you an estimate based on your situation and insurance.
  • The more specific you can be with the information you provide, the more accurate your estimate will be.
    • Ask your provider for the CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes of the service(s) you need. These are codes used for medical billing. The more information you have about the service you need, the better we can estimate your costs.
    • Provide specific information about another party who may be paying for costs, such as an insurance company.

A few things to note about the estimates provided within WakeMed MyChart:

  • Not all surgeries or procedures are included in our estimator tool. We are working to add more and improve the information included every day.
  • Estimates in this tool are based on historical data of similar or like cases. Exactly which procedure or surgery your doctor performs and where it is performed, may significantly impact the amount you are asked to pay.
  • These estimates are only for services rendered at a WakeMed hospital by a WakeMed Physician and do not include services provided by non-WakeMed physicians or non-WakeMed facility charges.  These estimates also do not include other professional services like pathology, radiology or anesthesiology, which are billed separately by those service providers.
