Vikas Pathak, MD is an Interventional Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine physician with WakeMed Physician Practices. He provides interventional pulmonology and general pulmonology consultation for hospital inpatients and also sees patient in private practice at WakeMed Physician Practices – Pulmonology. His clinical interests include interventional pulmonology, lung mass, lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, mediastinal lymphadenopathy, airway stenosis, pleural effusions and interstitial lung diseases.
Dr. Pathak earned his medical degree from Nepal Medical College, Kathmandu University in Nepal. He completed internship and residency programs in internal medicine at Saint Barnabas Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, New York. He then completed fellowship programs in pulmonary disease & critical care medicine and interventional pulmonology from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Virginia Commonwealth University - Medical College of Virginia, respectively. He was awarded the prestigious Phillip Bromberg Chief's Award for Scholarly Excellence at the end of his fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine and interventional pulmonology. He has published many research papers in several journals and has been invited nationally and internationally to give lectures to the residents and fellows. Dr. Pathak is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. In his free time, Dr. Pathak enjoys spending time with his kids, playing soccer and traveling.
