Physician Bio

Dr. Siddhartha (Sid) Rao is a cardiologist who specializes in both coronary and peripheral vascular interventions. His clinical practice includes advanced peripheral artery interventions and critical limb ischemia care, deep and superficial venous interventions and complex coronary interventions via transradial access.

Originally from Hyderabad, India, Dr. Rao earned his medical degree from the Jawahar Lal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Pondicherry, India, which is listed as an Institute of National Importance by India’s Parliament. While in medical school he received Certificate of Academic Honor awards in anatomy, pathology, microbiology, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology.

He completed his residency in internal medicine and his chief medical residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. He completed a cardiovascular fellowship and an interventional cardiology fellowship at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH).

Dr. Rao is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and vascular ultrasound. He is a registered physician in vascular interpretation (RPVI) and also recognized by the American Board of Vascular Medicine Diplomates in vascular medicine and endovascular medicine. He is a principal investigator for multiple coronary and peripheral intervention trials at WakeMed.

Dr. Rao has published articles in Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology and Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology (PACE).

Dr. Rao, his wife, who is also a physician, and their son live in Cary.
