Dr. George Wadie is a board-certified surgeon with WakeMed Physician Practices Pediatric Surgery and a pediatric surgeon at WakeMed Health & Hospitals. He has experience in pediatric surgery in the United States and Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Wadie specializes in performing adolescent weight loss surgery, and the cleft lift procedure to treat Pilonidal disease.
He received his medical degree from the Cairo University School of Medicine in Cairo, from which he graduated Excellent with Honors, and also was awarded highest honors in surgery, medicine and pediatrics. He was a resident in general surgery at Cairo University Hospitals and then a pediatric surgery fellow at the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Following that, he was a resident and chief resident in general surgery at Baystate Medical Center at the Tufts School of Medicine in Springfield, Mass. He also earned undergraduate degrees at the College De La Salle Catholic School in Cairo and the University of London. Dr. Wadie speaks English, French and his mother tongue of Arabic.
Dr. Wadie came to WakeMed Physician Practices Pediatric Surgery, as medical director for the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield, Ore., where he was responsible for developing the Pediatric Surgery Program, assisted with ensuring that pediatric surgery care was provided to children regardless of their families' ability to pay, and assisted with developing pediatric surgery policies and clinical protocols. He also served as adjunct assistant professor of surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore.
His previous experience includes serving as a clinical instructor of surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine in Springfield, Mass., where he lectured on the management of trauma patients and intensive care management of the surgical patient, and was responsible for teaching residents and medical students as well as assisting in the development of educational curriculum.
Dr. Wadie is Board-certified in Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, American Pediatric Surgical Association and American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
