Dr. Avick (Ogi) Mitra is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist with clinical interests in the areas of cervical insufficiency and prenatal diagnosis. He brings more than 20 years of experience in caring for women with high risk pregnancy conditions and their unborn children.
Procedures frequently performed include all types of cerclage (including emergency cerclage, exam-indicated cerclage, and transabdominal cerclage), diagnostic ultrasound, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, and intrauterine transfusion for fetal anemia and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia.
Dr. Mitra earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta Georgia, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). After residency, Dr. Mitra served as a clinical assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University and then returned to UNC-Chapel Hill where he completed his maternal-fetal medicine fellowship.
Dr. Mitra spent 20 years of his career with Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he served as the Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine for 13 years. He also served as the Director for the Center for Cervical Insufficiency at Carolinas Medical Center. He has been board certified in obstetrics and gynecology since 1990 and board certified in maternal-fetal medicine since 1995.
Dr. Mitra is a member of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. In his free time, Dr. Mitra enjoys exercising and keeping fit and is an avid golfer. He also enjoys spending downtime with his wife and their pets.
