ENERGIZE! & Weight Management

WakeMed ENERGIZE! provides a comprehensive approach to weight management and healthy lifestyle education for children and families. Our team consists of staff specially trained to work with children and adolescents struggling with the difficulties of weight management. A community based program taught in partnership with the YMCA of the Triangle, ENERGIZE is available for children and adolescents who are overweight and are motivated to make lifestyle changes.

Children with weight related medical problems including high blood pressure, pre-diabetes or high cholesterol will receive specific education and ongoing support to help them start living a healthier lifestyle and improve their health risk. Participants will receive an initial health behavior evaluation as well as ongoing education and support. Based on individual need and motivation level, each family will be enrolled in one of the following options:

  • A community-based, 12-week exercise and educational program that meets three times a week and includes group healthy lifestyle education and fitness programs (available for ages 6-18)
  • Individual medical nutrition therapy and healthy lifestyle education sessions, including individual meal and fitness plans (available for ages 2-18)

Appointments are available at the WakeMed Raleigh Campus as well as the Kraft Family YMCA in Apex.
