  • No visitors under the age of 12 are allowed in patient care areas.
  • Please do not visit patients if you are experiencing fever, vomiting, diarrhea or cold or flu-like symptoms.

Transfusion & Pain Management

WakeMed Cary Hospital’s Medical Day Treatment Unit provides blood transfusion, medication infusion and diagnostic and interventional spine services to patients in a dedicated space under the supervision of our experienced nursing staff. The MDTU has the patient’s comfort and convenience in mind.

Currently, we offer blood transfusions and medication infusions such as Iron Dextran (Infed), Remicade® and Reclast®. For more information about specific types of transfusions and infusions, please contact the MDTU at 919-350-2390.

For outpatients seeking pain management services, WakeMed Cary Hospital offers diagnostic and interventional spine services in the MDTU. These services include trigger point injection one to two muscles or three or more muscles, joint injections medium and large, cervical/thoracic facet injection, lumbar/sacral facet injection, cervical/thoracic ESI, lumbar Sacral ESI. Carolina Pain Consultants, an extension of American Anesthesiology, is the provider of these services.

Hours for the MDTU are 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Our actual closing hours depend on the duration of the last scheduled infusion or transfusion.
