On January 1, 2008, WakeMed proudly introduced the WakeMed Soccer Park, after signing an official three-year sponsorship agreement with the Town of Cary.
The first-class soccer facility, formerly known as the SAS Soccer Park, is located at 201 Soccer Park Drive, just outside of downtown Cary. This exciting sponsorship compliments WakeMed's commitment to the health and wellbeing of the community.
Home to the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division Carolina Railhawks, the Triangle's first men's professional soccer team, and the new W-League professional women's soccer team, the complex is considered one of the finest in the country.
It is also home to the men's and women's NCAA and ACC tournaments, U.S. Soccer Men's and Women's games, state and national youth tournaments, youth lacrosse, cross country races and more.
"The sponsorship is an excellent opportunity for us to reinforce the message of how physical activity contributes to a healthy lifestyle," said Dr. Bill Atkinson, WakeMed's president and CEO. "We look forward to our partnership with the Town of Cary and the Carolina RailHawks and are pleased to help continue strengthening this unique community resource."
The WakeMed Soccer Park is expected to draw approximately 360,000 soccer fans and visitors in 2008.
