Physician Leadership Development Program

The WakeMed Leadership Academy is excited to announce the new Physician Leadership Development program, designed to prepare and develop future physician leaders. In partnership with The Advisory Board and WakeMed Organizational Development, the experiential cohort-based program will be focused on the development of key leadership competencies associated with business management skills, interpersonal effectiveness and leadership impact.

Eligibility

All practicing physicians and Advanced Practice Providers who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply:

  • Minimum of three years of experience
  • Not currently serving in a formal leadership role at WakeMed (no direct reports)
  • Have completed the Communication in Healthcare Course

 

Program Overview

  • Leadership coursework and experiential developmental assignments
  • Self-assessments for feedback and coaching
  • Case study applications and review

Please Note: Participation in the Physician Leadership Development program does not guarantee promotion or job advancement

 

Participation Requirements

Participation in this program is a 12-month commitment with required four-hour monthly meetings on the first Thursday of each month, from 3 to 7:30 pm beginning March 5, 2020. See the full calendar of classes. The total time commitment is expected to be around 6 hours per month, including time for the in-person meetings and to complete required pre-work.

 

Application & Selection Process

Interested applicants should complete the required application form and obtain one reference by December 31, 2019. References should be completed by your immediate physician supervisor:

  • WakeMed Physician Practices employees: Physician supervisor within WPP
  • Contracted providers (WEPPA, RPLA, Raleigh Radiology, American Anesthesiology, etc.): Physician supervisor within your practice
  • Independent/Community providers: WakeMed Chief Medical Officer for appropriate facility (Raleigh Campus, Charles Harr, MD; Cary Hospital, Seth Brody, MD; North Hospital, Karen Bash, MD)

Candidate interviews will take place in mid-January and selected candidates will be notified Monday, January 27, 2020. The first cohort is open to 25 participants.
