System receives three awards for achievements in supply chain and cost management

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 10, 2014) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals has been recognized for achieving excellence in clinical quality and supply chain performance by VHA Inc., a national network of not-for-profit health systems.
WakeMed, a member of the VHA Central Atlantic region, received three performance awards for improved outcomes in 2013 based on selected clinical quality, patient safety and supply chain measures.

- WakeMed Raleigh Campus was honored with a Supply Networks Performance Award for its collaboration and commitment to excellence in supply networks and for participation in the Central Atlantic Health Network (CAHN), a multi-hospital partnership aimed at reducing operational and supply costs. Supply costs represent the second highest expense for hospitals, next to labor.

-WakeMed Raleigh Campus was also recognized with a Pharmacy Solutions Performance Award for its contributions as a member of the VHA Central Atlantic Pharmacy Program (CAPP), a network of eight not-for-profit hospitals with a collective goal to create significant sourcing and drug utilization savings. In just one month – from November 2013 to December 2013 – the CAPP program achieved a savings of $1.52 million.

-WakeMed Cary Hospital received the Supply Chain Performance Improvement – Supply Chain Metric Performance Award. The hospital was recognized for implementing projects and initiatives over the course of 2013 that enhanced efficiency and effectiveness of its supply chain and management processes.
