WakeMed News Releases

December 9, 2013
RALEIGH, NC– December 9, 2013 – WakeMed Health & Hospitals is one of only 11 hospital systems nationwide to receive the 2013 Hospital Website Transparency Award. The awards, announced by URAC and The Leapfrog Group, identify outstanding hospital websites that promote transparency of safety and quality measures in a manner that is useful and user-friendly for consumers.

The only hospital in the state to receive this recognition, WakeMed continues to enhance its website and digital presence to create the most accessible and transparent online experience for our patients and the community. WakeMed understands and supports the importance of being transparent, and our commitment goes far beyond the quality care that takes place within our facilities. Our website and online offerings are great tools to inform as well as empower consumers in this new era of healthcare.

The winners’ websites were evaluated in the following areas:
• Transparency/Reporting
• Design
• Credibility
• Literacy
• Connectivity

“For the past two years, the Hospital Website Transparency Awards have recognized hospitals that have adapted and succeeded in the new era of health care consumerism,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “They have designed websites that are informative, engaging, and user-friendly for the communities they serve. We applaud their commitment to innovation and healthcare transparency.”

“URAC commends WakeMed Health & Hospitals for achieving the Hospital Website Transparency Award, showing true initiative in protecting consumers through transparency and quality reporting,” said Kylanne Green, URAC President and CEO. “We are celebrating these hospitals who exhibit innovations and best practices, and it is encouraging to see these hospitals that are committed to informing, protecting, and serving the community.
