RALEIGH, N.C. (September 21, 2011) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals is pleased to announce that, beginning October 17, Dudley Harrington will be WakeMed’s vice president of revenue cycle, managing the system’s $1 billion in net revenues.

In this role, Harrington will lead Patient Financial Services, Reimbursement/Managed Care and the administrative arm of Patient Access, supporting an already strong team of directors, managers and staff.

Harrington will be responsible for all aspects of the revenue cycle and will continue the significant process improvements WakeMed has undertaken over the past two years. Additionally, Harrington will be tasked with managing health care reform implementation related to revenue cycle and adjusting processes and procedures to accommodate system growth.

Dr. Bill Atkinson, president and CEO, explained, “Mr. Harrington was selected from a wide range of well-qualified candidates for his depth and breadth of experience in outstanding health care organizations. His broad financial and revenue cycle expertise will help us negotiate highly competitive managed care contracts and prepare for changes on the horizon with health care reform. Harrington has more than 25 years of experience in health care finance. Most recently, he served as vice president of Managed Care & Revenue Cycle for MCG Health Inc., in Augusta, Ga. MCG Health is a not-for-profit corporation supporting the research and education mission of the Medical College of Georgia by operating a 478-bed medical center, 154-bed children’s medical center, sports medicine center, ambulatory care center and radiation therapy center.

Prior to MCG Health, Harrington was director of managed care services for McLeod Health, Inc., in Florence, S.C., and previously held the same position with Carolinas Hospital System in Florence, S.C.

Harrington earned both a bachelor’s degree in science with a concentration in accounting and master’s in business administration from Francis Marion University. He is also a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
