5 Ways to Start Losing Weight Today

January 07, 2013

1.  Eat Breakfast
You can burn more calories each day by eating breakfast and you will have less of a chance of overeating at night.

Great Choices

  • Peanut butter sandwich
  • Homemade Egg McMuffin
  • Banana sandwich
  • Oatmeal w/blueberries
  • Cereal & 1% milk

2.  Cut 100 Calories Out of Your Diet
It adds up!  If you cut 100 calories each day for an entire year, you can lose over 10 pounds!

  • Drink one less soda/tea
  • Drink one less beer or alcoholic drink
  • Switch from regular mayo to low-fat mayo
  • Eat one less helping of food
  • Pass on dessert

3.  Don’t Drink Your Calories
Watch those drinks with lots of calories!  It’s easy to get too many calories from certain drinks.  Most sodas, sweet tea, sport drinks & alcohol are going to add 150-300 calories each time you drink them.

Great Choices

  • Water
  • Diet Soda
  • Crystal Light
  • Unsweet tea (w/Splenda)

4.  Move Your Body!
Find ways to work a little more activity into your day.  Even if your workdays are long and hard, you can still find 10 minutes to get a little exercise.

Exercise to Try

  • Sit-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Using the stairs
  • Walking around the block
  • Walking the dog

5.  Eat More Vegetables!
Replace half of your starchy foods (pasta, bread, potatoes, corn) with vegetables to fill you up with more fiber and help save calories.

Great Choices

  • Salads w/low-fat dressing
  • Raw veggies w/low-fat dip
  • Cooked veggies
