Dr. Robert Matthews is a board-certified senior staff urologist with WakeMed Physician Practices - Urology, where he has worked since 2003. He also is an associate professor of urology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and holds the rank of captain in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama.
Before joining WakeMed Physician Practices - Urology, Dr. Matthews was a staff urologist at Urologic Consultants in Minneapolis, MN, and at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He also served as a flight surgeon for the First Marine Air Wing in Okinawa, Japan. He served his country during these stints and is now a retired Navy Captain.
He is a member of the American Urologic Association, American College of Surgeons and Society of Government Service Urologists. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications.
