Dr. Samuel Wesonga is a board-certified family medicine physician. He has been practicing family medicine since 1989 and joined WakeMed most recently after several years working at the Duke Primary Care office in Knightdale where he served as practice director. Previously, he spent more than 15 years delivering family medicine care in Rocky Mount at Boice-Willis Clinic.

Dr. Wesonga earned his medical degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN and completed a residency program in family medicine at Bronson and Borgess Hospitals in Kalamazoo, MI. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Indiana University.

Dr. Wesonga’s patient care philosophy involves using a holistic approach to caring for his patients – which includes exploring alternative therapies when appropriate. He is passionate about training the next generation of physicians and as such, has served as a clinical adjunct instructor for both the UNC School of Medicine and the Duke University School of Medicine – precepting medical students, nurses and physician assistant students. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the North Carolina Association of Family Physicians.

In his free time, Dr. Wesonga enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, gardening and jogging. He is involved in his church and has volunteered his time and talents to provide medical care to the underserved.
