Dr. Zalavadia is dually certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. As a specialist in medical weight management, she is passionate about helping her patients prevent and reverse obesity related illnesses though a non-surgical, comprehensive approach.

Dr. Zalavadia, is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She went on to complete her medical training at St. George’s University School of Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, New York. Dr. Zalavadia furthered her training and developed her passion for treating weight management patients and weight-related conditions at Geisinger Medical Center where she was selected for a fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Nutrition Support.

With her training, Dr. Zalavadia is in an exceptional position to be able to tailor a patient’s diet and activity plans based on physiology and their individual metabolic needs. She is a strong proponent of preventative care and is passionate about preventing, slowing the progression of, and possibly reversing weight related medical conditions.

Patient Care Philosophy: We are all unique, and everyone’s body is different. Therefore, there is no “one size fits all” standardized approach that will deliver every individual the same results. I strongly believe in teaching patients how to create sustainable life-long changes that are customized to them and embrace their individuality. Thus, allowing patients to achieve and maintain their own personal healthiest state.

Clinical Interests

-Interpreting measured metabolic testing for patients to teach them how to achieve dietary and activity goals that are exclusively personalized to their bodies, medical conditions, and lives.

-Working with bariatric surgery patients after surgery to achieve maximum outcomes, managing malnutrition complications, and optimizing patient care for those who may be struggling with weight re-gain after bariatric surgery.

-Working with other medical specialists who need their patients to meet a BMI requirement and reduce peri-operative risks in order to safely proceed with a medical procedure and customizing patient care for that procedure. Examples include: joint and spine surgery, IVF/fertility treatments, organ transplant optimization, reducing recurrence of abdominal hernia, etc.

-Creating comprehensive yet tailored programs for large corporate wellness programs and employee performance optimization.

- Treating obesity and also obesity related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and more. p>

WakeMed Patient - March 2020

No. I had to wait a month to get appt. Then after asking scheduler, did not realize appt was at least an hour. I was there early but had to return to work after waiting on other patient. I tried to reschedule but would have had to wait another month. I found someone else

WakeMed Patient - February 2020

Both the provider and the MA were excellent. Jatlyn has been wonderful with follow up and communicating results back to me. I had a wonderful experience with everyone in the office.

WakeMed Patient - January 2020

I appreciate my doctor taking the time to explain how my blood pressure medication affects my overall health

WakeMed Patient - January 2020

Jay, as well as Dr. Z., always goes out of her way to take care of me and to listen to me. Both have made my weight loss a much easier journey.
