Biography

Born and raised in the small resort towns of McCall, Idaho and Bigfork, Montana, Dr. Udell became interested in the field of medicine at a young age. He earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Arizona, and his medical degree from the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. He completed his residency training in urology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the American Urological Association, and Board Certified by the American Board of Urology.

Dr. Udell's clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery of the kidney, ureter, bladder, and prostate. This includes using the Da Vinci© Robotic Surgical System to perform prostate, kidney, bladder, and reconstructive genitourinary surgery for both cancerous and benign diagnoses.

He has significant experience and interest in prosthetics for erectile dysfunction and male urinary incontinence. This includes the surgical placement of inflatable penile prosthesis and artificial urinary sphincter.

Additionally, he is one of the few urologists in the Raleigh area with a strong interest in the treatment of penile curvature (Peyronie’s Disease). This includes injection of Xiaflex©, which is the only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment for penile curvature.

In addition to his work with patients, Dr. Udell is dedicated to medical education and serves as the urology medical student director at WakeMed and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Urology at The University of North Carolina in the Department of Urology. Volunteer work has also been an important part of his personal and professional development.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Udell enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is completely smitten with his wife and young daughter. Photography, golf, and playing guitar (poorly) are among Dr. Udell’s favorite pastimes, however, his passion for boating and wakeboarding truly define him outside of the hospital. Time spent at the lake was a large part of his upbringing, and he was a sponsored wakeboarder for approximately 15-years.

Please contact his office to schedule a consultation.

WakeMed Patient - January 2020

Excellent knowledge in his area of medical diagnosis and care. I have referred new patient to his medical care. I do not experience white coat syndrome during my medical appointments with him - I have a feeling of being understood as to what is occurring with my body by Dr. Udell. His demeanor in caring for his patient is impeccable.
