Patient Care Philosophy
Treating a patient’s body is just one part of patient care. Unless we also address the patient’s spiritual and emotional needs, we are missing the complete picture, and the outcome will not be as desirable.  As a cardiologist, I address all three aspects – mind, body and spirit – when caring for my patients.

Dr. Senthil Sundaram is a seasoned cardiologist whose clinical interests span non-interventional cardiology, preventive cardiology, heart failure as well as the management of coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, valvular heart disease and complex cardiac conditions. After moving to Raleigh 2003, Dr. Sundaram was hoping to join a premier health care organization that made high quality patient care a top priority as well one that offered a close collaboration and partnership among doctors, staff, hospital administrators and the cardiology practices. At WakeMed, he found all of this and was thrilled to join the team that same year.

Dr. Sundaram takes a holistic approach to medicine, making it a priority to understand and address the patient’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs to improve his or her health outcome. He credits his childhood experiences in the pediatrician’s office with inspiring him to pursue a career in medicine. Even as a young child, Dr. Sundaram realized that he could one day make a difference in someone else’s life through health care.

“My career in medicine has evolved with the understanding that taking care of a patient extends beyond that patient,” explained Dr. Sundaram. “The care we provide [as physicians] impacts entire families and even the community as a whole. Being able to make this impact is why I became a doctor.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Sundaram is the proud father of two grown children. He enjoys art, travel, but most of all, spending time with his family.
