In addition to expertise and experience, our bariatric care team provides the individual attention and support that you need to succeed on your way to a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle. Your bariatric care team includes a coordinator, nurses, nutritionists, and health and fitness specialists who will treat you with patience, compassion and discretion. They will work closely with you to answer questions, gather information, and provide encouragement and support before and after bariatric surgery in a program that is personalized for your specific needs.
Stacy Kropp, MPAP, MPH, PA-C, RD, LDN
Stacy Kropp is a certified physician assistant who specializes in surgical weight loss, nutrition, and wellness. Before attending physician assistant school, she practiced as a registered dietitian helping people improve their health through nutrition. She joined the WakeMed Physician Practices General Surgery team in 2017 and continued working to improve the health and wellness of patients as a physician assistant. With the WakeMed Bariatric Surgery and Medical Weight Loss team, she is focused on helping patients prevent, slow, and/or reverse weight-related medical problems.
Stacy completed her undergraduate studies, earned a Master of Public Health, and completed a dietetic internship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She practiced as a clinical dietitian for nearly a decade before becoming a physician assistant. She earned a Master of Physician Assistant Practice from Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, where she deepened her passion for practicing evidence-based, patient and family centered care.
Stacy offers one-on-one sessions to guide patients through their pre-operative journey, preparing patients for surgery and beyond with education and guidance, by tailoring nutrition, fitness, and wellness plans to help patients meet their goals. She also assists during surgery and guides the patients’ post-operative courses while in the hospital, in the months following surgery, and for years to come as they continue their journey toward better health.
Outside of the hospital and clinic, Stacy enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as CrossFit training and running.
Sarah Stout, PA-C
Sarah Stout is a board-certified physician assistant specializing in general, bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. With more than a decade of medical experience, Sarah provides thoughtful and compassionate care to her patients. She obtained her undergraduate degree in psychology at North Dakota State University and a master’s degree in physician assistant studies at Union College. Throughout her medical career, she has worked as an emergency medical technician, a phlebotomist, and as a physician assistant in various specialties including orthopaedics, general and bariatric surgery.
Sarah supports her patients both in the office and in the operating room – performing minor procedures and serving as a critical part of the surgical team during laparoscopic surgical procedures. She enjoys helping her patients throughout their bariatric surgery journey – whether it’s helping them navigate complicated insurance processes, preparing for surgery, or recovering and maintaining their new lifestyle after a weight loss procedure.
When not treating patients, Sarah enjoys traveling, reading, going to the theater, listening to live music and learning new skills. She spends as much time as possible with her husband, Jon, and 3 children Owen, Cooper, and Harrison, along with her dog, Jack.
Jeanne Hutson, MSN, MPH, NP-C, BC-ADM
Jeanne Hutson is a nurse practitioner specializing in medical and surgical weight management, nutrition and wellness, and diabetes. She has decades of experience helping both adult and pediatric patients improve health indicators and manage disease by focusing on education, wellness, nutrition and the delivery of evidence-based medicine.
Jeanne joins WakeMed Bariatric Surgery and Medical Weight Loss after spending years caring for patients with endocrine disorders at Cary Endocrine & Diabetes Center. Previously, Jeanne worked as a certified diabetes educator for both WakeMed’s Pediatric and Adult Diabetes Programs. Jeanne blends her background in nursing, diabetes management, and nutrition to provide both medical and lifestyle expertise to her patients.
Working with patients to manage the daily challenges of chronic disease, Jeanne provides the education and clinical expertise to help people feel their very best. She most recently earned her American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) Certification in Obesity Management. She holds a master’s degree in public health in nutrition, as well as both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing. She earned board certification in advanced diabetes management in 2002. Jeanne has been heavily involved in research throughout her career, where her interests include metabolic syndrome prevalence and type 2 diabetes prevention in children.
When not treating patients, Jeanne enjoys spending time with her husband and trying to keep up with her trainers at Burn Bootcamp. She loves visiting her three children and three grandchildren, who are spread out across the country and she is an expert in flying Southwest.
Kristin Clowes, RD, LDN
Kristin Clowes is a registered dietitian specializing in bariatric patients. Kristin earned her bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition from Appalachian State University. She completed her dietetic internship at Meredith College. She is commissioned as a registered dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is a Licensed Nutritionist/Dietitian within the state of North Carolina. Kristin’s guiding principles are to enjoy what you like in moderation and mindfulness. She works to provide realistic and long-term solutions for better eating in the midst of our demanding lives.
Rebecca Skotek, RD, LDN
Rebecca Skotek is a registered dietitian specializing in bariatric patients. Rebecca earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from Penn State University. She completed her dietetic internship at Meredith College. She is commissioned as a registered dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is a Licensed Dietitian and Nutritionist within the state of North Carolina. Rebecca’s guiding principle is an individualized approach to nutrition, understanding each patient’s needs are different. It is her goal to translate her background and knowledge into relatable information in order to best accommodate a patient’s personal lifestyle goals. She enjoys translating science-based evidence into relatable information.
Trish Vulpis, RD, CSOWM, LDN
Trish Vulpis is an experienced registered dietitian specializing in bariatric patients.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Auburn University. She is board certified in Obesity and Weight Management and has over three decades of experience as a dietitian. Trish has experience counseling and consulting Whole Foods, hospitals, sports facilities and individuals as well as teaching weight loss classes. Trish has presented lectures for the American Cancer Society on nutrition and cancer treatments as for the American Heart Association on nutrition.
Joelle Sevio, BS, RDH, CPT
As a fitness specialist for the WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss program, Joelle works with bariatric surgery patients to prepare for surgery and for life after surgery by providing tips to be more active throughout the day, develop a consistent exercise routine, and develop an individualized exercise prescription. Joelle's goal is to meet patients where they are while providing effective, individualized programs. She holds a BS in Health Science from UNC-Chapel Hill and has a passion for inspiring and motivating individuals of all fitness levels to reach their fitness and lifestyle goals through a whole person approach.
Jenna Ellison, Ph.D.
Dr. Jenna Ellison is a Health Psychologist specializing in bariatric patients. She earned both her master’s and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from Southern Methodist University. She completed her internship at the UCSD/VA San Diego Consortium and her fellowship at Durham VA Medical Center. Along with her clinical work, she has conducted research in the area of bariatrics and has published research articles on psychosocial predictors of success following bariatric surgery.
Dr. Ellison provides assessment and treatment through the biopsychosocial perspective with the goal of helping patients understand and address the connection between physiological processes and emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
