group of people in spiritual careThe crisis of hospitalization often raises complex issues for patients and families, which can generate a swirl of emotions including anxiety, anger, grief, guilt and fear.

Chaplains are available to offer compassionate support and spiritual guidance for you and your family members during a hospital stay. The ministry offered is interfaith with respectful care to people of all belief systems.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Spiritual Care at WakeMed Health & Hospitals is to provide effective spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in ways that are supportive and meaningful to them while respecting their values and belief systems.

About Our Chaplains and How They Can Help

Our chaplains are specially trained to work with hospital patients and families and are available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week to minister to your needs.

Contacting a Chaplain

  • During weekdays, between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm:
  • After hours and on weekends, request staff or the hospital switchboard contact the on-call chaplain.

Raleigh Campus Spiritual Care 

chapel roomThe Raleigh Campus chapel is located on the third floor of the Main Tower between 3A and 3B.

The chapel is available for patients, families and staff for private meditation.

Spiritual Care Services

Jehovah’s Witnesses

  • Representatives available daily

Jewish Bikur Cholim

  • Saturdays – Jewish volunteers are now available to make patient visits

Jewish Shabbat

  • Fridays in patient rooms

Meditative Mondays

  • Interfaith service, Mondays at 12:30 pm

Muslim Prayers

  • Daily at the appointed times, prayer rugs and Korans are available

Roman Catholic

  • Eucharistic Ministers offer Communion weekdays to Roman Catholic patients. There is a Roman Catholic priest available upon request for the Sacrament of the Sick.
  • Raleigh Campus chapel every Thursday beginning February 1, at 11:30 am.

Spiritual Care will contact representatives of these and other faith traditions represented in the WakeMed patient population if patients or families request us to do so.

Cary Hospital Spiritual Care Services

A meditation chapel is located on the first floor. It is open at all times for prayer, meditation and times of silence. Another spot for quiet reflection is the hospital's outdoor courtyard, which is located outside the hallway that leads to the chapel.

North Hospital Spiritual Care Services

A meditation room is located on the first floor of the Women’s Hospital at WakeMed North, just off the main lobby. The room is open at all times for prayer, meditation and times of silence. If you would like to talk to a chaplain, please ask the nurse to contact a chaplain for you.
