Patient Safety
The WakeMed Center for Patient Safety was established to bring all of the hospital system's patient safety activities together under one umbrella.
The WakeMed Center for Patient Safety works to implement patient safety goals identified by these organizations: WakeMed, the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
For each safety initiative, a committee is appointed, and members work together to determine the related safety issues. After collaborating with medical staffs, nurses and other care professionals, they review patient safety concerns and implement solutions.
As a patient, you, too, can play an important role in protecting yourself during your hospital stay.
Become your own healthcare advocate, or appoint a family member or loved one to be an advocate for you. Ask questions. Speak your mind. Our goal is to empower you with the education and the tools you need to stay safe.
Patient safety is a team effort!
