Pediatric Unit

WakeMed has the only inpatient unit dedicated to pediatrics in Wake County. 

Recently renovated and expanded, the cheerfully decorated unit is located next to the PICU and features a sunny playroom with a castle mural, salt-water aquarium and an outdoor roof-top play area. 

A team of specially trained health care professionals work closely with our child life specialists, who help make children feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.  

The specialists educate patients about procedures, provide strategies for pain management and initiate therapeutic play.

Each patient room is private and equipped with a small refrigerator for parents' convenience as well as a pull-out cot for parents to spend the night with their child.
