  • The goal of this program is to provide information and education to students interested in learning more about careers in healthcare.
  • Open to volunteers ages 14 to 20
  • Program runs from October through April of each year
  • Most meetings are held every other Monday from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm
  • Registration is considered on a first come – first served basis
  • The onboarding process includes filling out a brief application, providing a signed immunization verification form, and signing a confidentiality agreement.

Structured Volunteer Placements Ages 16-18

The goal of this program is to provide hands-on volunteer service related to a student's area of interest.  Each Junior Volunteer will begin as Guest Ambassador so they can learn the facility and become comfortable in the healthcare environment prior to moving into other placement areas. Things to consider before applying:
  • This program is open to volunteers ages 16 to 18 (Must be in high school to apply and 16 years of age date of application.)
  • Minimum of three months of service commitment is required for a total of 25 hours (Verification of hours will be provided upon completing this requirement.)
  • Applications are only accepted during certain times of the year and processing  for applications can take up to 3 to 5 weeks.

WHEN TO APPLY

Please Note: Application submission does not guarantee placement.  All applications are reviewed by the Volunteer Services team and juniors who are selected to participate in the program are invited in for an interview.

SUMMER TRACK
April - The application period for both Raleigh Campus and Cary Hospital placements closed on April 6th at 10pm.
May – Complete onboarding processes (Interview, Orientation & Medical Requirements)
June/July/August - Requirement Completed

FALL TRACK
Online Application will open the first Monday of August - The application portal will close once the number of applications received meet the current needs.
September – Complete onboarding processes (Interview, Orientation & Medical Requirements)
October/November/December - Requirement Completed

SPRING TRACK
Online Application will open the first Monday of January – The application portal will close once the number of applications received meet the current needs.
February – Complete onboarding processes (Interview, Orientation & Medical Requirements)
March/April/May - Requirement Completed

General Requirements and Things to Consider Before Applying To Volunteer

  • Volunteer commitment is weekly for 2 to 4 hours.
  • The hospital requires current immunizations for all volunteers. This includes: MMR, Varicella Titer and two-step tuberculosis skin test. Hepatitis B vaccinations are recommended for patient care areas.
  • Must complete a FLU vaccine annually
  • Able to communicate well in English (second language skills are a plus).
  • Please be aware that we do not accept applications for court ordered community service hours.

Comprehensive testing, training and orientation are provided for each of our applicants. As a result we ask for a significant commitment from our volunteers. To join our team, we ask you to:

  • Be willing to complete an in-person interview
  • Willing and able to make a commitment to volunteer a minimum of 3 months of service with a total of 25 hours
  • Complete a two-step TB screening and medical screening 
  • Complete an orientation packet
