During your labor and delivery stay at WakeMed, specially trained lactation consultants will check in with you on a regular basis to see how they can assist you with breastfeeding. They are available to offer advice, coach you while you breastfeed your baby and/or give you helpful information on how you to enhance your breastfeeding techniques.
Our lactation specialists possess a wealth of knowledge and are widely known among our new breastfeeding mothers as a trusted resource. In fact, the WakeMed Women's Pavilion & Birthplaces (Raleigh & Cary) were awarded the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) Care Award. This award recognizes hospitals, birthing facilities, and birthing services that have International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and have a dedicated lactation support program available at least five days a week. Learn more by watching this video. New to our system, the WakeMed North Family Health & Women's Hospital also offers a dedicated lactation support program.
For additional information about breastfeeding, you can reference the Breastfeeding Your Baby brochure provided to you during your stay at the hospital. After discharge, if you have questions or need help working with your baby, call the WakeMed lactation consultants at 919-350-5742 (Raleigh) or 919-350-1831 (Cary). The phone number for lactation consultants for patients of WakeMed North is coming soon.
