Visiting the Heart Center
A World Class Facility: One Convenient Location
The hub of cardiac and vascular services is the WakeMed Heart Center on the WakeMed Raleigh Campus. Step into the WakeMed Heart Center and enter the utmost in convenience. The entire facility is designed to give patients and their families easy and comfortable access to the care needed.
The Heart Center's layout allows patients convenient parking or use of valet services, and to register, see their cardiologist, and have non-invasive cardiovascular tests and invasive cardiac catheterization procedures in one location.
The inpatient nursing units and cardiac surgery suites are just steps away in the main hospital building, adding to the conveniences of our Heart and Vascular Care.
From the convenient parking deck adjacent to the building, to the ease of finding your way to patient registration, diagnostic testing, your physician's office or the Heart Center Inn, our facility was designed to serve without hassle or anxiety.
Cardiologists in the WakeMed Heart Center perform the following procedures:
- Diagnostic catheterizations
- Coronary and carotid interventions
- Peripheral vascular studies and interventions
- Electrophysiology implants and procedures
- Heart surgeries
The Heart Center is home to 11 procedure rooms. Of those, nine are used for catheterization, interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular labs, including a "Swing Lab" that allows imaging equipment used in catheterization procedures to pivot from one room to another to increase efficiency.
Two rooms are dedicated to Electrophysiology (EP) Studies and Ablations, Pacemaker and AICD Implants and other EP procedures, including Cardioversion and Tilt Tests.
In Heart and Vascular Surgical Services, there are four dedicated operating rooms where heart and other cardiac surgeries are performed. Dedicated nurses with specialized training in caring for surgery patients support the team of experts in cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
