Phase 2 - Help Us Grow

With patient safety and quality outcomes in mind, WakeMed Health & Hospitals opened the region’s first Center for Innovative Learning in 2009 with the goal of making healthcare safer through medical simulation and gaming.

Since opening, the Center for Innovative Learning has hosted 455 courses for 19,000 learners each year across the healthcare continuum throughout the region.  The Center is making healthcare safer, but we have reached capacity for our current facility and need to expand.

  Expansion Plans

Phase 1 - Introducing Accessible, Realistic Clinical Training - Complete

The WakeMed Center for Innovative Learning facilities Phase 1 features a nurses station, intensive care/trauma suite and a flexible patient care room that can be used for general medical or birthing. Each area is designed to mimic a typical inpatient unit and features the same technology, supplies, equipment, and design found in units throughout a hospital. The Center for Innovative Learning also has the ability to take simulation learning outside the walls of the hospital via a fleet of vehicles, including the region's first simulation ambulance.

Phase 2 - Expanding to Make Healthcare in the Region Safer - Opening Date TBD!

Help us expand and add thousands of additional square feet of clinical space, including patient rooms and a critically needed simulated operating room suite.  This new space will enable training for providers across the healthcare continuum, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and first responders alike.
