Baby Basics Class - Bringing Home Baby
This three-hour class is taught at WakeMed Cary Hospital and at WakeMed Raleigh Campus. Expectant parents go from station to station for a hands-on experience, within an independent learning format. Learning is self-paced and participants can spend as much or as little time on topics, depending on their preferences. Instructors demonstrate baby care techniques and are available for questions and further instruction as needed. The cost is $40 per couple.
Boot Camp for New Dads
This innovative program for expectant fathers is designed to prepare first-time dads for both the challenges and joys of parenthood with a focus on the first few weeks after the baby's birth. The class is offered every other month and should be taken prior to your baby's birth. The cost is $20.
Today more women choose to breastfeed their babies. Research shows women who have the most support are able to successfully breastfeed for longer periods of time. We are here to help, and offer classes to provide you with the information and support you need.
Breastfeeding Support Group
This FREE support group is staffed with certified lactation consultants and educators. It is designed for moms of babies from birth to nine months. Sessions are held weekly on Mondays from 2 to 3:30 pm at Cary Hospital. No registration is required. Call 919-350-8235 or email us for more information.
Choosing and Using Quality Child Care Seminar
During this seminar you will learn how to search for and identify high quality child care services. Specific topics covered include North Carolina's licensing regulations and accreditation standards as well as key quality indicators for child care programs. Seminar attendees will also learn how to access community resources and financial assistance programs available to help pay for child care. This seminar is offered monthly at WakeMed Cary Hospital. Safety First Aid for the Family
This new class focuses on toddler, preschooler and family injury prevention. You will learn safety tips and gain good, sound advice to empower you to recognize and avoid potential injuries common to children and adults in and around the home. Learn how to spot dangers before they occur. First Aid Certification is given upon successful completion of the course. Cost is $30 per person.
This class is meant to help new and expectant grandparents learn ways they can help and support new parents in the first few weeks after a grandchild is born. It includes information about safety around the home, activities for and games to play with children, and fun communication tools. As a bonus, this class will cover how to successfully perform CPR on infants and how to help an infant who is choking. The cost is $15 per person.
CPR: Infant, Child & Adult
In this three-hour course taught by certified CPR instructors, parents, grandparents and babysitters will learn basic skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and obstructed airway management for infants, young children and adults. Participants will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver® Certification. The cost is $45 per person.
Sibling Class & Tour
This class presents the perfect opportunity for your children to see where their brother or sister will be born. Children, divided into groups of ages 3-5 and ages 6-10, tour the Women's Pavilion & Birthplace - Raleigh or Cary and they will participate in a discussion about what can be expected from a newborn. Each one-hour class is designed with age-appropriate material and instruction. Each child will create a special keepsake craft. Classes are offered on Saturdays. The cost is $15 per family.
Women's Pavilion & Birthplace Tour
Of course you'll want to see where you will give birth. This free, guided tour offers an up-close look at the Women's Pavilion & Birthplace - Raleigh or Cary and a discussion of our services. Tours are offered in the evening and on Saturday.
