Employee Forums Begin August 7
The next round of employee forums begins on Thursday, August 7. Check the flier and mark your calendar to attend one of these informal discussions with Donald Gintzig, president & CEO. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and hear what’s up ahead for WakeMed.

Removable Media Changes Coming Soon
In an effort to ensure patient privacy and protect WakeMed from unintentional security breaches, Information Services will begin transitioning all removable media drives (USB, CD, etc.) on WakeMed computers to ‘read only’ in the coming weeks. Starting next week, the removable media drives on all shared clinical workstations (desktops) will be converted to read only mode. WakeMed has established several secure alternatives that will allow physicians and employees to transfer large files or share sensitive information when necessary. Please do your part to protect our patients – and yourself – by using these secure alternatives. Click here to learn more.

Reminder: Know Your Role in Code Blue/RRT
WakeMed’s emergency response teams (Code Blue and Rapid Response Team) are trained to serve and take charge of emergency events. If you are in working with a patient (or encounter a patient or family member/visitor/employee who needs help), and an emergency response team is called, please allow them to do the work they have been trained to carry out. Even if you are a nurse, respiratory therapist or physician, if you are not part of the emergency response team, please leave the scene to minimize crowds and facilitate excellent patient care. (Note: This does not refer to the primary bedside patient care nurse who is an integral part of the team.)

Upcoming Power Outages at Raleigh Campus
Due to the Emergency Power Switching Systems project, frequent power shutdowns will occur on the Raleigh Campus over the next year. These outages will impact lighting and red emergency outlets in identified departments. Managers, directors and clinical administrators are being informed about the daily or weekly shutdowns. Outages that impact the entire campus will be announced in the WakeMed Weekly. Thank you for your cooperation and for your help ensuring the safety of patients, visitors and staff throughout this project. If you have any questions, please email Melody Wallace at mewallace@wakemed.org.
