The Volunteer Services department supports placements at WakeMed Raleigh Campus, Alexander YMCA, WakeMed North Healthplex, WakeMed Brier Creek, and WakeMed Zebulon/Wendell Skilled Nursing Facility.

The Volunteers at WakeMed Raleigh Campus Hospital is a 501(c)(3) organization, EIN 56-0749114 established in 1961 when WakeMed Raleigh Campus opened its doors. Their countless hours of patient service continue to help WakeMed staff and physicians care for all who enter our doors.

Here are just a few ways The Volunteers at WakeMed Raleigh Campus make a difference in the lives of patients, staff and our community:

  • In fiscal year 2012, 932 volunteers contributed more than 82,562 hours to assist our patients, staff and visitors.
  • Provide huggables, quilts, baby caps and other hand-made gifts to patients of all ages.
  • Serve as Patient Relations Ambassadors, who provide an extra level of customer service to thousands of patients

Purchases & Programs Made Possible by the Volunteers

The Volunteers at WakeMed Raleigh Campus hold fundraising events throughout the year to support the mission of the entire health system. All event proceeds benefit WakeMed programs and initiatives:

  • Scholarships for patients to attend WakeMed Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Breastfeeding scales for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Toiletries for immediate-need patients
  • Diversionary toys and supplies for WakeMed Children's Hospital patients
  • Supplies for the Children's Music Pain Management Program
  • Specialized tools and supplies for spinal cord injury patients
  • Baby supplies for immediate-need new moms
  • Scales for WakeMed Congestive Heart Failure Program patients
  • WakeMed Spiritual Care's Tea for the Soul support program for patient care providers
  • Support to the WakeMed Foundation designated for:
    • Children's Hospital Ronald McDonald Family Room
    • Children's Emergency Department breezeway
    • Rehabilitation Health Park gazebo
    • Critical Care Waiting Room reception area
