Mammography at WakeMed Cary Hospital
WakeMed Cary Hospital Imaging Services uses digital imaging for mammography. This technology offers women the distinct advantage of enhanced tumor detection through the breast tissue. It is especially beneficial for women whose breast tissue is dense. The digital mammography machine is fast, which means patients spend less time in uncomfortable positions.
Because there is no waiting for film to be developed, digital images are immediately available and can be quickly sent to any secure location where digital images are used. That immediate availability also means patients spend less time in the exam room.
The American College of Radiology (ACR) has designated WakeMed Cary Hospital a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, making it one of only three in Wake County. To achieve this designation, Cary Hospital Imaging Services has demonstrated excellence in breast imaging by successfully achieving accreditation in Mammography, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Breast Ultrasound and Ultrasound-guided Breast Biopsy.
