Nursing professional development is the lifelong process of active participation by nurses in learning activities that assist in developing and maintaining their continuing competence, enhance their professional practice, and support achievement of their career goals.  WakeMed supports our nurses through multiple professional development opportunities.

Nursing Professional Development Program

WakeMed’s Nursing Professional Development Program (NPDP) recognizes and rewards exemplary nursing practice that makes a positive and timely contribution to our patients, families and communities. Nurses who participate in NPDP have the opportunity to climb our clinical ladder and earn higher compensation while giving back to our community through meaningful activities that directly impact our patients, family members, and community.

Nursing Education

WakeMed’s Nursing Education department provides professional development activities for the nursing staff at WakeMed. Offering over 250 courses and 10,000 sessions annually, Nursing Education supports our nurses and their dedication to being life-long learners.

Tuition & Specialty Certification Reimbursement

WakeMed provides tuition reimbursement for accredited college coursework that contributes toward a degree related to the employee’s position as well as reimbursement for registration and testing fees associated with specialty nursing certification.
