Diversity & Inclusion

Respect. Tolerance. Understanding.

At WakeMed Health & Hospitals, we provide an inclusive work environment that promotes the valuing of differences, respect for everyone and cooperativeness among our diverse workforce.

A Legacy of Care and Caring

Diversity, inclusion and access have been core to WakeMed's mission and values for more than 55 years. From the beginning, WakeMed Health & Hospitals has been dedicated to providing outstanding and compassionate care to all who seek our services, regardless of age, race, religion or ability to pay.

Memorial Hospital of Wake County – now WakeMed Raleigh Campus – opened its doors in April 1961, and is considered the first integrated hospital in North Carolina. Over the years, WakeMed has expanded to meet the growing needs of our community and today we are proud to offer many programs that nurture a culture of respect for our patients, their families and our employees.
