RALEIGH, N.C. (July 10, 2014) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals has tapped Sheri De Shazo, MBA, MHA, RN, as vice president and administrator of WakeMed North Hospital. She will join the WakeMed system on August 11, bringing a 20-plus year career in health care management and extensive experience as a hospital administrator and chief nursing executive.

In this role, De Shazo will be involved in all major operational and management decisions as WakeMed prepares for the May 2015 opening of North Hospital, a 61-bed acute care hospital with a focus on women's specialty services. Following the Mother’s Day 2015 opening, she will continue to be responsible for overall operational leadership to include administration, clinical outcomes and financial performance.

“We are very pleased to welcome Sheri to the WakeMed team. She is an innovative thinker with a strong history of relationship-building with physicians, nursing and hospital staff, and other health care professionals as well as business and community organizations,” shares Donald Gintzig, WakeMed president & CEO. “As we look forward to providing exceptional women’s services to the northern Wake County community, we are fortunate to have found an administrator with these skills along with a proven track record.”

De Shazo comes to WakeMed from Piedmont Health Care where she served as the chief clinical officer and vice president, Administration, for Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga. In 2012, De Shazo helped open and establish the newly-completed Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Since the hospital opened, she has worked closely with physicians, staff and other leaders to build relationships with the community while overseeing all clinical, nursing, ancillary and support services. Prior to Piedmont, De Shazo was the chief operating officer and chief nursing executive for Carolinas HealthCare Systems’ Kings Mountain Hospital in Cleveland County, N.C.

De Shazo, who is Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt certified, earned a master’s in health care administration and a master’s in business administration from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, N.C.
